TXA 21's High School Football TV Schedule
FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - TXA 21 is set to kick off another season of exclusive local high school football telecasts with an attractive schedule of weekly regular season and playoff games leading up to state championship weekend at AT&T Stadium in Arlington in December.
This season's TXA 21 regular season schedule features four live Thursday night games in addition to ten more traditional Friday night telecasts. The slate includes 13 state ranked schools and 25 teams that made the state playoffs last year.
In addition, beginning August 29, TXA 21's weekly half-hour "The Fan High School Football Kickoff Show" returns for another season. Former Flower Mound Marcus All State quarterback Chris Sanders will be joining me for this weekly half hour preview show which will be broadcast live each Thursday at 6:30 p.m. from high school venues all over the Metroplex.
TXA 21 Game of the Week Schedule
Allen at Southlake Carroll (Friday, Aug. 30, 10:30 p.m.)
This is one of the most highly anticipated matchups of the season. Junior quarterback Kyler Murray led Allen to the Class 5A Division II state championship last year. The Eagles return a stellar defense led by linebackers Tay Evans, an Oklahoma commit, and Christian Sam (Arizona State). The Dragons have won state crowns 5 of the last 11 seasons. Junior quarterback Ryan Agnew, who led Carroll's 7-on-7 squad to a state title this summer, takes over the offensive reins.
Jacksonville at Palestine (Thursday, Sept. 5, 7 p.m.)
This East Texas showdown features a matchup of elite junior quarterbacks Fabian Clark of Palestine and Jacksonville's Carter McCown, the cousin of NFL veterans Josh and Luke McCown.
Mansfield Summit at Mansfield (Friday, Sept. 13, 10:30 p.m.)
Mansfield ISD's longest running rivalry renews as Summit coach Travis Pride rebuilds and tries to knock off coach Jeff Hulme's Tigers, who are looking to improve on a 7-5 season in 2012.
Corsicana at Waxahachie (Thursday, Sept. 19, 7 p.m.)
The second Thursday live telecast of the season showcases two traditional rivals in a non-district clash. Corsicana looks forward to the return of QB DeVontay Bell while Waxahachie has one of the top linemen in the state in Patrick Lawrence, who has committed to play college football at Baylor.
DeSoto at Cedar Hill (Friday, Sept. 20, 10:30 p.m.)
College recruiters will be out in full force for this District 7-5A opener between two of the most talent rich programs in the nation. DeSoto (14-1) made it to the 5A Division I state semifinals last year and returns QB Desmon White, WR Chris Lacy (Oklahoma State), and DB Nick Orr (TCU). Cedar Hill (11-5) charged all the way to the 5A Division II state finals in 2012 and features CB Marcus Green (Oklahoma), DE Xavier Washington, RB Larry Hill, and WR Demarkus Lodge.
Lucas Lovejoy at Wylie (Friday, Sept. 27, 10:30 p.m.)
Coach Bill Howard's Wylie Pirates will be primed for an upset bid against Lovejoy, which enters the season ranked 22nd in the state in Class 4A behind sophomore QB Bowman Sells.
Carrollton Newman Smith at Carrollton Creekview (Friday, Oct. 4, 10:30 p.m.)
Coach Paul Ressa's Trojans will be tested against Creekview junior QB David Blough, who emerged in the spring as one of the top recruits in the nation.
Mesquite Poteet at Highland Park (Friday, Oct. 11, 10:30 p.m.)
Class 4A coaches around the state ranked these two District 10-4A rivals in the Top 10 in Texas in the preseason. Poteet's Pirates have one of the top linebacker recruits in the nation in Malik Jefferson. Junior Brooks Burgin is at the controls of Highland Park's high powered offense.
Hurst L. D. Bell at Euless Trinity (Thursday, Oct. 17, 7 p.m.)
Coach Mark Smith's Bell Blue Raiders have recently closed the gap on their perennially powerful Airport Freeway rivals, and they have an experienced quarterback this year in Colson Romano. However, coach Steve Lineweaver's Trojans are still the bullies on the block and are as big as ever up front as evidenced by behemoth 6-5, 305 pound tackle Lem Galeai (Oklahoma State).
Garland at Sachse (Friday, Oct. 18, 10:30 p.m.)
Coach Jeff Jordan's Garland Owls rolled to six wins in their final seven games to make the playoffs a year ago, but the assignment will be a big one against a Sachse squad that returns prolific QB Kent Myers, who accounted for 45 touchdowns in 11 games in 2012.
Coppell at Flower Mound Marcus (Friday, Oct. 25, 10:30 p.m.)
This is a matchup of two hard nosed District 5-5A rivals with smashmouth reputations. Coppell's Solomon Thomas is one of the top defensive end recruits in the nation while Gavin McDaniel carries the load on offense. Cole Erwin returns from an ACL injury to lead the Marcus offense and has a highly touted target in sophomore tight end Cade Smith, who already has a scholarship offer from Alabama.
Plano at Plano West (Friday, Nov. 1, 10:30 p.m.)
Coach Jaydon McCullough's Plano Wildcats have one of the best linebackers around in David Griffith, but it will take a total team effort to corral the Wolves' tailback tandem of Auston Anderson (Northwestern) and junior Soso Jamabo, whom Coach Mike Hughes says will be the nation's top recruit next year.
Arlington Bowie at Arlington Martin (Thursday, Nov. 7, 7 p.m)
Another live Thursday telecast that will draw plenty of interest from college recruiters as one of the nation's top recruits, Martin DE Myles Garrett, and his Warrior teammates try to slow down the Volunteers. Bowie welcomes the return of QB Keaton Perry, WR Tony James, and LB Edwin Freeman.
Celina at Argyle, (Friday, Nov. 8, 10:30 p.m.)
This figures to be a battle for the District 10-3A championship between two schools ranked in the top ten in the state. These are two tradition rich and talent heavy schools that advanced to the 3A regional semifinals last year. Celina has a dual threat quarterback in Nathan Elliott while Argyle has a do-everything talent in Ian Sadler (Texas Tech) and a two-way stalwart in Sam Sizelove (Kansas State).
