Two Years Later, Widow Still Searching For Husband's Killer
FORT WORTH (CBS 11 NEWS) - Walk inside Vatrice Hawkins home in Fort Worth and immediately pictures of her late husband greet you.
In fact, there is a whole room dedicated to George Hawkins, 52.
"George was a hot wheel collector," says his widow pointing to his collection. "I've put all of them up on the walls."
Vatrice says she comes into the room she set up for him everyday, several times a day.
She'll sit in his big comfy chair for hours.
"It's like I'm getting a hug from him when I sit here," says Vatrice, explaining that the chair gives her peace and comfort.
George was walking their small Shih Tzu dog Jasmine around their apartment complex in the 2200 block of Elmwood Drive in Arlington on October 26, 2010.
It was eight in the morning when someone shot and killed him.
"You could see his briefcase...lunch. He was going to walk Jas and then go on and go to work," says Vatrice. "He didn't make it to work that day."
Arlington Police are trying to come up with new leads in the cold case murder mystery.
Investigators say robbery does not appear to be a motive at this point.
Also, Oak Farms Dairy has renewed its $10,000 reward offer in the murder.
The reward will be available for the next six months and will be paid for information leading to the arrest and indictment of the person responsible.
George worked for the Postal Service for almost 30 years.
His widow says after his death she's had hard time going on.
"I live it over everyday. I make myself get up," says Vatrice "I hear him tell me to keep going. You can't stop. You have to keep going."
Vatrice says for her to move forward she wants to know who killed her best friend.
"I don't hate that person but I do need to know why. Why did the devil chose you to come that day and kill him?" says Vatrice. "He was my life and whoever did this, they took my life."
