Johnson County Rapes Put Women On Alert

BURLESON (CBS 11 NEWS) - Kathryn DaVault, who lives near Burleson in Johnson County, always keeps a gun on hand for coyotes and snakes. Now, there's a new danger -- a rapist, possibly two. "I want all the ladies around here to know what's going on. And to know this is the second rape and assault," she said.

The first rape took place on a Sunday afternoon in July, on the  property she owns. DeVault said, "The police man came knocking on my door and told me what happened. And I, at first, was what?!"

DaVault said that investigators told her the man grabbed the woman who was jogging off CR 605. He dragged her through thick brush and trees about 50 to 60 yards. And then, he took her to a gravel road where he raped her.

Investigators released a sketch of the suspect described as a white male, 6-feet tall, wearing a red ball cap, red plaid shirt and large sunglasses. He had a knife.

Investigators aren't sure if he's the same man who raped another woman at knifepoint last Thursday near County Roads 604 and 523, not far from the first assault. Details were too vague in this most recent assault. It happened outside, near a front yard, at 11:30 at night. That victim described her attacker as a white man with a tan, possibly Hispanic.

Either way, Kathryn DeVault wants to let her neighbors know that there's a predator on the loose. She said, "I don't want anyone else hurt. Whether you know your neighbor or not. You're still your brother's keeper."
