FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) – Fort Worth Police say two people in their 60s were robbed at gunpoint as they paid their respects to their loved ones at their gravesite.
It happened over the weekend at Laurel Land Cemetery. The victims had items taken from them by the suspect but weren't hurt.
Now, Julie Ford who has several family members buried at Laurel Land, is leading a push to get the management to increase security there.
Ford said she is frightened to go visit her loved one's graves because of this latest crime.
Ford said, "I'm scared to death to come visit my family, and it's Christmas time. That's when you bring flowers and you want them with you."
The cemetery management issued the following statement:
"The safety of the families we serve is of the utmost importance to us and we take any kind of incident that occurs at our park very seriously. We currently have plans to increase security patrols in and around our park, and encourage anyone who may have any knowledge about this incident to please contact authorities. Out of respect for the privacy of the families we serve, we are unable to make any further comment about the incident."
Ford said she won't go back to the cemetery until she feels secure.
She added, "Laurel Land needs to have security guards in place and they need to be warning the public of what is happening."
