Two North Texas Teens Swinging For Top Of Tennis World
DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - Two North Texas teenagers are making names for themselves in the sport of tennis.
Mitchell Kruger and Shane Vinsant just returned from Europe after making it all the way the finals in the Junior French Open. "It's pretty surreal walking on those courts, I'll never forget it, I'll never forget those memories," Vinsant said of the experience of playing on the red clay in Paris.
Vinsant is from Keller and home schooled while Krueger attends a private academy in Plano.
The two 17-year-old's are the only players from Texas to even make it into the tournament.
The doubles team also played in Junior Wimbledon. "It's probably the best tournaments to play by far," says Kruger.
Both players are back at the TBarM Racquet Club in Dallas practicing for the Junior U.S. Open, which starts next month.
They say they have girlfriends but don't have much free time for much else. "I think we put in more time than most kids," says Vinsant. "I think we love it more than a lot of kids."
The teenagers spend as much as six hours a day on the court with the dream of one day making it on the pro tour. "Make it on the pro tour, the top number one in the world and winning grand slams, that's what we want to do, that's my dream," says Kruger.
"I know the chances are kind of slim, but the belief that you can do it and the work is just crucial," says Vinsant.
