Two More Zika Cases Found In Dallas County

DALLAS (1080 KRLD) - Dallas County health officials have identified two more cases of Zika virus in the county, bringing the total number of cases to 26.
These latest cases have affected a 6-year-old child from Dallas and a 50-year-old man from Grand Prairie. Both of those were imported cases from Guatemala and the Dominican Republic.
"The recent rains, of course, will contribute to mosquito activity" says Zach Thompson, Director for Dallas County health department. "We're also looking at the fact that it's getting darker earlier."
Thompson says those who come back from affected countries and are diagnosed with Zika need to stay indoors to reduce the risk of passing the virus to others.
A warning has been issued by the health department to restrict travel to Zika affected countries, but people are traveling there despite that advice.
Officials say no cases of Zika have been transmitted by local mosquitoes.
