HUNT COUNTY (CBSDFW.COM) - A pair of Hunt County deputies were assaulted and injured late Monday night in the 600 block of North Highway 69 in the Celeste area.

Sheriff Randy Meeks says the deputies responded to a suspect who was said to be making abusive 911 calls.

When the deputies got to the man's home, the Sheriff says he became "extremely argumentative and combative and ignored verbal commands from both deputies to calm down."

Deputies deployed two "Tasers" which were ineffective. One of the deputies fired his gun at the man.

The suspect was flown to a Dallas area hospital.

The Texas Rangers were called in to conduct the criminal investigation and an internal investigation will be conducted as well.

The injured suspect is being charged with two counts of Assault on a Public Servant and one count of Silent or Abusive Calls to 911 Service.

Both suffered minor injuries.  One was treated and released from the hospital.  The other deputy did not go to the hospital.

The Hunt County Sheriff's Office has not yet released the name of the suspect or details on his condition.

"I am thankful that my two officers were not seriously injured. Law enforcement is a dangerous profession," says Sheriff Meeks.
