Two Dallas County Deputies Fired In Fraud Scandal
DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) – Two of the 35 deputies implicated in a fraud scandal were fired Wednesday, and more terminations are expected to come later in the week.
Vincent Griffin and Robert Suits, each Dallas County deputies in Precinct 2, are the first to be brought down by a county auditor's report released last month.
The report alleged that nearly three-dozen deputies lied about trying to service eviction notices when they actually didn't. The audit was based on results from GPS tracking devices placed on patrol cars.
Some of the accused deputies have questioned the integrity of the investigation. Some constables even refused to get them to sign notices of complaint, which would have signaled an immediate suspension.
"At this time we're not placing anybody on administrative leave, we're going to conduct our own investigation," said Precinct 5 Chief Deputy Constable Mike Ramirez on May 17.
This put them at odds with the Dallas County Commissioners Court, who vowed to have all the complaints signed nearly two weeks ago.
Griffin's attorney said his client would fight the firing, which he called "unjust."
He said the deputy's patrol car was tracked to an auto shop where it was being serviced. Meanwhile, the attorney contends Griffin was using another vehicle on the day he's accused of not working.
