BURLESON (CBSDFW.COM) -- Two schools in the Burleson Independent School District have been placed on lock down after a social media threat was directed at a current student.

Burleson High School and Centennial High School were placed in lock down, meaning all doors have been closed and students are remaining in their classrooms. Additional officers are also on campus.

The district says the decision was made out of an "abundance of caution" after the vague threat was made on Facebook by a former high school student.

The superintendent tells us that Burleson Police are currently working with Grandbury Police to locate the former student.

The schools are requesting that parents refrain from coming to school and picking up their children.

The district released the following statement Monday morning.

In an abundance of caution, we have placed both high schools in a Lockdown mode. We received news this morning that a student sent out a message on Facebook that indicated a threat towards a student at one of our campuses. This means that all doors have been closed and students are remaining in their current classrooms.

We are working closely with the Burleson Police Department to investigate this threat. Also, the police department has provided additional officers on and around the campus.

Please know that students are safe here at school, security is tight, and we will continue to keep you up to date. Police have requested that parents refrain from coming to the campus in order to allow them to best maintain a secure environment.
