Trial To Begin For Mesquite Man Who Drowned Dog
DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - A mesquite man charged with felony animal cruelty for the August 30, 2013 beating and drowning death of his dog, will go on trial Wednesday.
If convicted Robert M. Prichard could receive up to 10 years in prison.
According to the probable cause affidavit, Prichard, 60, is alleged to have beaten his Pit Bull, Candy, in the head with a shovel multiple times.
He then threw her into his swimming pool, and then used the pool net to drown her while she fought for her life.
He acknowledged to police that he was mad at Candy for chewing on the pillows of his lawn furniture.
The trial will take place at Crowley Courts in Dallas with Judge Lena Levario presiding.
Prichard has been in the Dallas County jail since June for violating his bond conditions. During a bond hearing last year, prosecutors referred to a graphic video of Candy's death recorded by Prichard's own home surveillance camera.
It's expected that the video, which is described as horrific, will be shown in its entirety during the trial.
