Trial Date Set For Cowboys' Josh Brent

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - Josh Brent, the Dallas Cowboys defensive lineman charged with intoxication manslaughter for his involvement in a car accident that killed his close friend and teammate Jerry Brown, is scheduled to begin his trial on Sept. 23.

As first reported by 105.3 The Fan, Brent was the driver and Brown the passenger in a Dec. 8 one-car crash in Irving. Police say the car was traveling at a high rate of speed and that Brent had a blood-alcohol level more than twice the legal limit.

The charge can carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison. Brown's family has asked for leniency for Brent, who has been free on $100,000 bond while awaiting the trial date first confirmed by Bloomberg.
