Trekkies Weep Over Shuttle Unveiling In Houston
HOUSTON (AP) - Trekkies have arrived in Houston decked out in Scotty's Repair Shop T-shirts, tourist engineer hats and full-blown Star Trek outfits to see the official landing of the legendary Galileo shuttlecraft not far from NASA's Mission Control.
The restored shuttlecraft that crash-landed on a hostile planet in the 1967 episode "The Galileo Seven" was officially unveiled Wednesday at the Space Center Houston before a crowd of die-hard Star Trek fans.
Some wept as it was unveiled. Others could barely contain their hyper excitement. And many drove hundreds of miles to see the moment.
Adam Schneider who restored the shuttlecraft to its original TV glory flew in from New York from the moment, comparing his pride to that of having your child graduate from college and land a successful job.
