Union Pacific Train Derails In Tarrant County

TARRANT COUNTY (CBSDFW.COM) -- A Union Pacific train initially believed to be carrying ammonium nitrate derailed early Thursday morning in far Southwest Tarrant County.

Traveling from Tucson to Dallas, two locomotives and seven cars derailed around 5:00 a.m. near the intersection of Aledo Road and Markum Ranch Road in Aledo.

According to Union Pacific spokesman Mark Davis, one of the cars was loaded with cement; the other six were empty.

Davis says one of the crew members was injured in the accident and transported to the hospital. His condition is unknown, though his injuries are not believed to be serious.

The car initially believed to be carrying as much as 30,000 pounds of ammonium nitrate was empty.

Authorities are still working to determine the cause of the derailment.
