Traffic & Revenue Drop At Southwest Airlines

DALLAS (AP) - A key revenue figure for Southwest Airlines Co. fell in November, as the late Thanksgiving holiday may have pushed some travel into December.

Dallas-based Southwest on Monday said it expects the figure to rise slightly for the full fourth quarter.

Southwest, which also operates AirTran Airways, said that passenger revenue for every seat flown one mile last month dropped 6 percent from November 2012. That's a closely watched statistic in the airline business, and it falls when fewer seats are filled or if average ticket price declines.

Southwest expects the figure to rise 2 percent for the fourth quarter, as revenue from some return trips home after Thanksgiving fell into December.
