Trader Joe's Plans Location In Southlake Town Square
SOUTHLAKE (CBSDFW.COM) -- Southlake Town Square will soon have a new tenant with a fanatic following: Trader Joe's Grocery.
"I love it!" said Collin Pursley, who grew up in California where the chain is based, as he sat outside a Town Square coffee shop. "Great food. They're always reliable, fresh. The people are great. The atmosphere is great. It's just a great neighborhood store. They'll bring a lot to the area."
Fans of the grocery have swarmed to Trader Joe's openings in North Texas for its unique brand names and premium products.
"I'm getting calls saying, 'Oh, thank you! Thank you! Thank you! We've been waiting for this. This is fantastic!'" said Frank Bliss, president Cooper & Stebbins, Town Square's developer.
The West Coast chain will build its newest store on the busy corner of Southlake Boulevard and Central.
The 13,500 square foot store will feature architecture allowing it to blend into the stores, offices, brownstones and government buildings of town square.
The store brings more than just a loyal fan base to Southlake Town Square.
The 1.4 million square foot town square development was designed to be a single destination for everything from dinner to a trip to the dentist.
But right now, getting groceries means crossing busy Southlake Boulevard.
Which is why developers have searched for years to find a grocery that fits into the town square's development.
"For us having a Trader Joe's in Southlake Town Square is adding an essential ingredient to what a downtown is all about," Bliss said. "Because, without that you could get it done AROUND town square but not inside."
"I think its a wonderful idea," said Geri Shehan, a Southlake resident. "Great corner, good location. I'm looking forward to it."
The developers hope to break ground on the project in January 2014 and have the store open later that year.
The first Texas locations opened last June in Fort Worth and The Woodlands. Since then, two other locations have opened in the area, including one in Plano and another on lower Greenville in Dallas.
A fourth location is expected to open on Walnut Hill in North Dallas.
Since opening in 1958, the Los Angeles area grocer has expanded to more than 390 stores in 35 states.
