Tracking an Arctic blast and chance of rainfall on Sunday in North Texas
NORTH TEXAS – Happy New Year! 2025 is off to a great start with cooler temperatures and plenty of sunshine in the forecast for the rest of the week.
Thursday will start chilly, with lows in the 30s, but highs will warm into the 60s by the afternoon.
The mild weather won't last for long. An Arctic front is on the way to North Texas on Sunday, which will plummet temperatures.
Forecast lows are expected to be at or below freezing starting Monday morning into the rest of the week. Now is the time to prepare and come up with a plan to protect your pipes, plants, and pets.
In addition to the cold weather, the front will tap into enough moisture to promote showers and storms. For DFW there is a chance of rain, but the highest confidence for storms will be localized in East Texas.
In fact, the Storm Prediction Center, SPC, has highlighted a risk for severe weather for east Texas, Louisiana, southern Arkansas, as well as western Mississippi for Sunday. When the SPC issues an outlook this far in advance, it means that the confidence is high for at least scattered severe development in those locations. Again, now is the time to prepare and stay First Alert.
Sunday's rain potential and high temperature will be completely dependent on the timing of the Arctic front, so stay tuned for the latest updates as the First Alert Weather Team continues to monitor the developing forecast. Have a great night!
