ENNIS (CBSDFW.COM) - Police dispatchers in Ennis said Thursday that a chartered tour bus crashed while attemping to travel underneath a railroad bridge. This happened shortly before 11:00 a.m. in the 100 block of East Baylor Street, right near Pierce Park and the Ennis Railroad & Cultural Museum.

The bus reportedly slammed into the bridge. Images from the scene showed extensive damage to the top front portion of the vehicle. There were no trains passing over the roadway at the time of this incident. However, a part of the bridge was slightly detached and hanging over the street.

A worker was seen inspecting the railroad tracks on and around the bridge. Emergency officials also closed East Baylor Street.

At least eight people were reportedly hurt. Dispatchers requested four ambulances to treat the injured passengers at the scene, but their conditions are not known. About a dozen people could be seen sitting in chairs outside of the wrecked bus just after the crash.

Ennis is located about 35 miles south of downtown Dallas along Interstate-45. It is not yet known where the bus was from or where it was heading at the time of this incident.
