Top NFL Overreactions After Week 2
DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) -- The NFL season is now two weeks old, so clearly we know everything about every team and can forecast the rest of the season with ease. Right?
It's time to react to the overreaction to the NFL's early results!
1. Overreaction: Buffalo Is Legit!
The Buffalo Bills started the 2011 season 3-0. They finished it 6-10.
I want to believe in a rejuvenated Bills defense, which many have labeled as "dominant" (LOL). I hope EJ Manuel's early start isn't fool's gold.
But the bottom line: it's the Bills. Sorry.
2. Overreaction: Tony Romo is finished
Romo has shown both mental and physical rust in returning from back surgery over the first two games. But let's tap the brakes on Romo's career coming to a close.
When Dez Bryant, Jason Witten, DeMarco Murray and a stacked offensive line are in the huddle, things suddenly become much easier.
No, we may never again see the magician Romo, who spins and turns and emerges from a sea of defensive lineman, taking over games. But Romo will be fine.
3. Overreaction: Richard Sherman is overrated
Richard Sherman was "exposed" by the Chargers offense in Week 2, surrendering three receptions and zero touchdowns. He even skipped out on talking to the media after the game.
Something tells me the two-time All Pro will be just fine.
4. Overreaction: The Texans will win the AFC South
The Texans have now beaten a badly-hobbled RG3-led Redskins team and the Oakland Raiders, losers of 8 straight regular season games.
Two words for you: Ryan Fitzpatrick.
J.J. Watt can rush the passer, defend against the run, and catch touchdown passes. He can't throw them too.
5. Overreaction: The NFL is full of criminals and hoodlums
People ignore all of the positivity surrounding the NFL and its players today.
Have you heard the story of Devon Still, whose daughter is battling cancer? Probably not. And it's a great one.
And the NFL's other league initiatives: cancer awareness, Play 60, and Salute To Service... Conveniently ignored.
Contrary to what social media pundits will tell you, there is good in the NFL.
6. Overreaction: The Giants Should Cut Eli Manning
This has actually been said...multiple times.
I will admit it: I don't like Eli. He throws too many incompletions and far too many interceptions. And the newly installed West Coast offense might not fit his strengths.
But he's won two Super Bowls and is deadly in the fourth quarter. How many QBs can say the same?
7. Overreaction: New Orleans will miss the postseason
Since 2007, 59 teams have started the season 0-2. Four -- or less than 7 percent -- made the postseason.
I'm sorry, but a Drew Brees led Saints team just doesn't fit into conventional statistics.
Their next three opponents have combined to win two games. They'll be just fine.
8. Overreaction: Colin Kaepernick is awful
Is he worth the six-year, $100+ million contract he signed this offseason? Probably not. But with inflated salaries, few quarterbacks are.
If you are looking for a quarterback to pile up fantasy football stats, steer clear of Kaepernick. If you want a QB who has proven he can guide an offense and win in the playoffs. He's not a bad option.
