#6 Lancaster vs. #1 Denton Ryan Friday 7:30pm @ Lancaster's Tiger Stadium TXA-21 Local Broadcast 10:30pm Friday, and 11am Saturday
Two of the best 5A teams in the state playing this early is rare and a treat for fans. In my opinion nobody wants to play these guys in non-district so they drew each other and get the chance to make each other better right out of the gate.
Lancaster- Coach Gilbert has tons of talent on both sides, and he gets the most out of that talent.
Ryan- Is led by QB Spencer Sanders who was a standout as a sophomore and had an undefeated regular season last year.
#1 Cedar Hill vs. Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas, Nv) @ Longhorn Stadium Saturday 8:00pm Nationally Televised on ESPN2 According to Maxpreps this is the #3 team in the country vs. the #4 team in country.
Gorman- Nevada Powerhouse 15-0 last season with 14 Nevada State Championships including 7 in a row under Coach Sanchez. Bishop Gorman QB Tate Martel Ohio State Commit has been talking some good smack on twitter. Notable alumni are Rangers Power hitter Joey Gallo, Former Cowboys RB Demarco Murray.
Cedar Hill- 3 State Championships and 2 since 2013. Head coach Joey McGuire has really created a winning culture at Cedar Hill. The longhorns are 37-6 the last 3 seasons, and QB Avery Davis is committed Notre Dame, along with a ton of talent on both sides of the ball. They have one of the best acronym mottos with TTHL! It stands for "Turn Them Horns Loose"
#3 Allen vs. Hoover (Hoover, Alabama) Tom Landry Classic Friday @ 7:30pm Allen stadium
Allen- Allen has a new head coach in Terry Gambill and there are some big shoes to fill with the departure of Tom Westerburg. This is a home game at Allen's Eagle Stadium despite being the Tom Landry Classic. Allen has won 3 out of the last 4 state championships in the state's largest classification. Allen had their 57 Game Winning streak snapped in the state semi-finals last year, they are 46-1 in the last 3 seasons.
Hoover- Alabama's 11-time state champion in Alabama and is the most tradition rich program in Alabama, the school was featured on the 2006 MTV reality Show 2 a days.
#5 Southlake Carroll vs. Tulsa Union (OK) Friday 7pm @ Dragon Stadium
Southlake Carroll- The Dragons come in a bit quiet this year but it's still the Southlake with 8 state championships in their back pocket. Southlake Carroll and Tulsa Union have their own Red River Rivalry over the past couple of years. The Dragons took down Tulsa in overtime in 2014 and came away with a dramatic comeback victory last season. This year's version shouldn't disappoint.
Tulsa Union- 8-time Oklahoma State champion, It's tradition goes back to 1884 as Tulsa's first public school. Their Mascot is the Redskins and controversy surrounds it.
Skyline vs. #7 Arlington Martin Friday 7:30pm @ UTA Stadium
Arlington Martin- Coach Wager always has his squad ready. If you haven't heard his story you should. He was coaching in NY State and decided one day he wanted to coach Hs in the greatest place to coach Hs football in the country. So he jumped on his motorcycle and headed down to Texas.
Skyline- Skyline is the crown jewel of DISD football teams and home of best halftime entertainment. Skyline has a playoff streak of 22 years and at their home field they have the best pork chop sandwich around.
