GRAND PRAIRIE —  A toddler died after drowning in a Gand Prairie pond Thursday, police said.

First responders were called to a pond off Grand Peninsula Drive around 12:15 p.m. When crews arrived, the toddler was out of the water and CPR was in progress. Responders continued CPR en route to the hospital.

Grand Prairie Police said the child is not associated with the nearby daycare center.

"We are heartbroken to learn about a tragic incident that happened today at a property adjacent to our school," said Sherman and Jaime Hatch, the franchise owners of Primrose School of Grand Peninsula. "Our deepest sympathies go out to the affected family. The child was not enrolled at Primrose School of Grand Peninsula. We are providing any information that may be helpful to local authorities."

The child's name and age have not been released.
