Tips For Finding The Best Mother's Day Gift

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - Buying the right Mother's Day gift for your mom (or wife) can be a big challenge. But with the right tips, it could end up being a lot easier than you think. Holly Quartaro of Galleria Dallas is a wife, mother and shopping expert. She also knows how to find the perfect present for any occasion -- including Mother's Day.

For example, millions of women regularly use Pinterest as an online scrapbook of things that they like, or a wish list of things that they would like to have, from clothes to art to home decor. "On my Pinterest page," Quartaro explained, "I have a pin that says 'red skinnies with white,' and the outfit is a pair of red skinny jeans, a white shirt and a white blazer. I walked into H&M and pulled this exact outfit, just like on my Pinterest page."

"The reason Pinterest works so well for luxury items is because these are things she aspires to," Quartaro said. "She's never going to go out and buy herself a Louis Vuitton handbag, but that's something you could spoil her with this Mother's Day."

If you already know what mom likes, the next step is to shop in her closet. "By shopping her closet," Quartaro said, "you find, first of all, the size she wears. It's so important whatever you get her fits her." Plus, seeing what clothes mom has already could help you better understand what she needs, or point you in the direction of her favorite designers or brands.

If clothes aren't your thing, try looking in mom's makeup bag. "This is what she loves, what she'll use every day," Quartaro said. You can even take a picture of the makeup bag's contents. "Walk into Sephora at Galleria and say, 'Here's what I have.' You can either refill what she needs or upgrade to something new."

If you simply cannot find the right gift, Quartaro said, "You can never go wrong with spoiling and pampering mom. And a great way to do that is by giving her a trip to the spa."
