Ticket Scalpers Demanding Premium For Frisco ISD Kickoff At The Star

FRISCO (CBS11) - Would you pay more than $100 to see a high school football game? That's what some scalpers are asking for tickets to Frisco's season opener at the Dallas Cowboys' new Ford Center this Saturday.
This weekend's opening games have been sold out for more than a month, but now with only a few days left before kickoff, some are scrambling to get their hands on tickets, and they won't be cheap.
Wakeland High School mom Bonnie Miller and her husband have been eager to set foot inside the new Star Center. They hoped to see their son's school play Liberty Saturday night.
"He's like, 'I can't wait to see the inside', so I said, 'fine just try', and he said, 'oh my God they're already sold out,'" Miller said.
That's the reaction the school officials wanted to avoid. The district gave Frisco ISD families an exclusive window to buy tickets before they were made available to the public, but plenty of people missed that opportunity.
"A lot of senior parents that want to see their kid play for the first time, like they're not going to be able to see them 'cause they don't have any tickets," Wakeland senior Shelby Debaugh said.
After the games sold out, Debaugh and her parents were happy to see the district create a standby list for students and parents. A Frisco ISD spokesperson tells CBS11 they have already made an additional 800 tickets available to people on the list.
"They sent an email out for Frisco ISD, and we were on a wait list right away," Debaugh said.
Even so, she says her parents weren't able to get tickets. Now she and her friends are monitoring online sales where scalpers are charging a high premium for the tickets that originally cost between $6 and $12.
"It says The Star Kickoff Session 1 tickets are going for $50," Debaugh said looking at one online seller.
In some cases it's even higher.
"That's ridiculous. I'm not going to pay that much," Miller said.
School officials remind everyone that plenty of tickets remain available for games later on in the season. That's why Miller says she can hold off for awhile.
"We'll just wait until things calm down. Then we'll go take a look at it," Miller said.
A district spokesperson says in addition to the 800 tickets they've already released to Frisco ISD families since the games sold out, they will release an additional 600 tickets Wednesday night at the original price, but that's only for those already on the standby list.
