Through The Lens: Tuba Christmas

It's an annual concert that has become my absolute favorite concert of the year. It's called Tuba Christmas. Each year over 150 tuba and euphonium players get together to play a bunch of Christmas carols here in Forth Worth and in over one hundred other cities around the world.

They come in all ages and from all over the world. One boy was here from Germany and wanted to be a part of Fort Worth's Tuba Christmas, so with a borrowed tuba he joined the other 152 volunteer members with low brass horns in Deck the Halls and Silent Night among others.

If you have never heard the rumble of more than a 100 tubas playing their special version of jingle bells, you don't know what your missing. The sound was described to me as that of a four part men's chorus that is absolutely gorgeous.

This year, for the first time, the concert was held on the campus of TCU. If you have never been to a Tuba Christmas concert, mark your calendar for next year. You will not regret listening to that rich brass sound playing your favorite old Christmas song.
