Through The Lens: Pole Position Raceway
I don't think it matters who you are, I think everyone likes to pretend to be a race car driver when they get the chance. I got my chance last week when I went to the Pole Position Raceway in Frisco for today's "Through the Lens".
Pole Position is a 50,000 square foot indoor track that uses "green" energy electric go karts. The cars are built in Italy and they use a brushless motor similar to those in remote control racing, only bigger. The cars run up to 45 mph and don't leave any gas fumes behind, so the public can stand alongside the track and watch the races up close.
The owner, Robert Finley, spent 20 years in the financial world traveling about 200 days out of the year and finally gave up that rat race for go kart racing. His son had raced motor cross but has since switched to go karting.
They gave me a chance to race around the track with a couple other people . I thought I was going pretty fast until I got lapped. I wasn't too upset the guy who lapped me was Finley's brother, who raced go karts nationally when he was younger.
It is a fun place to strap on a helmet and slip behind the wheel and just pretend for a few minutes you are a race care driver with the "need for speed."
