Three Rescued From Trinity River Greenbelt

DENTON (CBSDFW.COM) - Three people in a kayak had to be rescued from the Trinity River greenbelt east of Denton early Friday morning after they became lost along the river.

The three had taken off from Lake Ray Roberts late in the afternoon, according to the Denton Fire Department, and after it got dark, they weren't able to see where they were going because of the thick trees and vegetation.

About 12:30 this morning, they called for help and Denton firefighters were able to hack through the dense underbrush to get to them.

A swift water rescue team was called as a precaution and extra equipment brought in.  The two men and a woman - all in their 20s - were pulled out of the water after about 90 minutes.

An ambulance was called, but a fire department spokesman said there were no injuries.
