Three Dead In DeSoto Shooting
DeSOTO (CBSDFW.COM) - DeSoto police have a suspect in custody in the murders of three people Friday morning.
Police say it started as a domestic disturbance, and ended up in a deadly shooting.
They say a man forced his way into a home near Pleasant Run and Meadows Parkway and shot three people. Neighbors say there were a number of people, including multiple children inside the house at the time.
Captain Ron Smith identified the victims as Gerald Malone, his daughter Autumn Carey, and a 22-year-old named Adrian Jesse.
The shooter has been identified as Almonzo Henderson.
Police say Henderson kicked in a door and got into an argument with Malone. After shooting Malone he went through the house looking for Carey.
Malone's wife, children and grandchildren escaped out of a back door to a neighbor's house.
Neighbor Rod Pearson said the wife showed up at his door, carrying several toddlers and an infant and looking for help. "The only thing I could do was make sure the rest of them was safe. That's why I told them to go in my house and calm down. And I stood here at the door to make sure nobody came out – or tried to run back into the situation."
The DeSoto SWAT team was called in shortly after the rest of the family fled the house. After not getting a response from anyone inside, they entered the house to find the three victims and Henderson.
Police say after shooting the three, it appears Henderson shot himself in the head. His condition is unknown. Police say he is breathing, but not responsive. If he survives, DeSoto Police say they plan to charge him with capital murder.
Neighbors say Henderson and Carey have a child together, and that the child witnessed the shooting. Police say Henderson lives in Oklahoma, and it is unclear if he drove down explicitly planning the attack.
