Threatening Note Puts AISD Campuses On Heightened Alert
ARLINGTON (CBSDFW.COM) - Two Arlington schools are on high alert today after a note, with alleged threats against teachers and staff, was found on one campus.
Students started their day seeing more police officers and security procedures in place.
One parent emailed CBS 11 News and said adults were notified at the end of the school day Monday with a letter from the principal. The parent was upset the details of the threat weren't relayed sooner.
The note was found Sunday on the Young Junior High campus.
Arlington ISD leaders maintain the issue is being taken seriously. The note sent to parents said the district is working with Arlington police to investigate the alleged threats and reassured there is no imminent threat to students or staff.
Monday evening Arlington ISD issued the following statement:
"The district has been in close communication with the Arlington Police Department about a situation currently under investigation involving a note found on the Young Junior High property regarding alleged threats directed at some teachers and staff at Young and Miller Elementary. Enhanced security procedures with additional police and school district security were put into place and will continue until more information is known about this situation. The police believe there is no imminent threat to students or staff at either campus. However, the district and the police department will not take this investigation lightly. We encourage anyone who sees suspicious activity to please call 911."
Miller Elementary School is about three miles away from Young Junior High. In a letter sent to Miller parents the principal said campus entries at the school are secure and reiterated that visitors must show an identification that is scanned through a security system before entering.
Arlington ISD administrators also confirmed that teachers and staff routinely practice lockdown and emergency drills.
