Threat Puts Greenville ISD On Lockdown
GREENVILLE (CBSDFW.COM) - The Greenville Independent School District was placed on lockdown Thursday morning because of a possible threat in the area. The lockdown applied to all district schools and facilities.
This comes after the Greenville Police Department contacted the school district about an online threat to do physical damage and cause death in the East Texas city. That vague threat was found posted on Facebook. Police have not released any additional details about the nature of the threat.
The threat did not specifically name any buildings, students or employees in the Greenville ISD, but police and district officials decided to take extra precautions to ensure that students and staff members remained safe. The lockdown has since ended, and authorities are confident that any dangers have passed.
Police do have a suspect in custody. That suspect's name has not been released, but officials said that it is not a student from the school district.
Greenville is located about 50 miles northeast of Dallas. There are 10 schools in the Greenville ISD.
