Thousands Attend Funeral Of Irving Teen

CARROLLTON (CBSDFW) - Family and friends said goodbye to a popular Irving high school student killed over the weekend.

More than a thousand mourners attended the funeral for Josh Hernandez Heartland Church in Carrollton.

The 18-year-old was a member of the Byron Nelson High School Basketball, Football and Track teams as well as a National Honor Society member.

Hernandez died Saturday in a one car crash on Highway 287 in Fort Worth.

His twin brother Jesse was injured but spoke during the service.  "Please don't let his legacy die because he would not let you're legacy die," says Hernandez.

Friends of the young man remember his compassion and competitiveness.  "We had the opportunity to practice with him everyday he was a great kid," says Dallas Schoen, a Byron Nelson High School classmate.

Hernandez's family donated his organs and told mourners that more than 50 people benefited from them.
