Third Case Of Human West Nile Virus Reported In Plano
PLANO (CBSDFW.COM) - Health officials in Collin County have confirmed a human case of West Nile Fever. The patient lives in Plano in the 75025 zip code, between the Sam Rayburn Tollway and Central Expressway.
The first reports of West Nile came earlier this month when two Plano residents, in the 75025 and 75094 zip codes, were also diagnosed with West Nile Fever, which is a less severe form of West Nile Virus.
Health department officials say they will continue their mosquito habitat reduction efforts by applying larvicide and using spray abatement measures where needed.
Tuesday's notification by Plano Environmental Health brings the number of human West Nile cases reported in Plano this year to three.

Health officials are still urging residents to adhere to the five D's when it comes to controlling the presence of mosquitoes.
- DRAIN—all areas of standing water including changing water in wading pools, birdbaths, and cleaning out gutters;
- DEET—Use bug spray and protect clothing with repellents containing permethrin or DEET;
- DRESS—Dress in light- colored clothing with long sleeves and wear long pants;
- DUSK/DAWN—Limit outdoor exposure at dusk and dawn;
- DOORS—Keep door and window screens in good repair
