The Wait Is Over, Let The Shopping Begin
DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - The wait is over, and the Black Friday shopping rush is on.
Wal-Mart, Toys 'R' Us and Target stores in Dallas opened their doors to massive crowds Thanksgiving evening.
Shopping has become as much of the Thanksgiving holiday as turkey and dressing.
Hours before the mad rush at the Toys R Us in Dallas, Neisha Moore was strategizing.
"Just have my list of things I want to get… four pages long," she said.
After getting stuck at the back of the pack, last year, she came prepared this year and five and half hours early.
"I pulled up. I'm like whoooo! I'm first in line."
Next door at Best Buy, shoppers had a few more hours to wait.
"There's a bunch of soda, coffee, energy drinks," says Long Nyugen, who has been camped out with his friends for two days.
This is the second year they've held the front of the line, and this year he noticed a difference.
"It's actually very short this year. Last year was packed. It was cold. There were a lot of people, all the way to the back of the store."
Perhaps more people are choosing to shop online instead of stand in line. IBM is tracking Black Friday numbers and says by 11 a.m. on Thanksgiving, online sales were already up 14% over last year.
Still for many, braving the Black Friday crowds is part of their Thanksgiving tradition, which is more about the experience than the money saved.
