The View Back East: The Redskins Continue To Slide

There were several blowouts in week seven of the NFL and the Redskins were on the wrong end of it against the Panthers. John Beck could not move the offense and Tim Hightower suffered a season-ending injury. This team has now lost two in a row and things are not looking up. The Cowboys annihilated the Rams and stayed in contention. Here is a recap of the games and a preview of this week's games.

Panthers 33 Redskins 20

Cam Newton had his best game of the season with 256 passing yards and a touchdown. He also added 59 yards rushing and a touchdown. The Redskins had three turnovers and played poorly. John Beck had 279 yards passing and a touchdown, but also threw an interception and lost a fumble. Tim Hightower was having a nice game with 88 yards rushing, but suffered a torn ACL and is out for the season. That's a huge blow to this offense and now unproven backs Ryan Torain and Roy Helu must pick up the slack. They play the Bills on the road next and they have not won on the road all year. This team is looking more like a pretender than a contender. Prediction: Bills 24 Redskins 17
The Cowboys steamrolled the Rams 34-7 and now face the rival Philadelphia Eagles on the road. This game will be a big game in the standing, because whoever wins has a leg up on the other. The Eagles looked like they were turning things around before their bye week and the Cowboys look like a contender as well. The Eagles have had trouble stopping the run all year and Cowboys running-back DeMarco Murray just ran for 253 yards last week.

This should be a high scoring game as both offenses are explosive. The biggest difference in the game is the Cowboys defense. It has been one of the best in the league and the Eagles offensive line has been in shambles all year. The Cowboys will get after Michael Vick and force him into mistakes. Prediction: Cowboys 27 Eagles 24

The Giants also had a bye week last week and now face the hapless Dolphins. Miami is winless and one of the worst teams in the league. The Giants should roll over them and prove they are the best team in the division right now. They need to prove that they are a consistent team and have an identity. This is their last easy game before a brutal stretch to end the season. They must not look past the Dolphins since they play the Patriots next week on the road. They must focus and not pull a choke job like against Seattle three weeks ago. The Giants will destroy Miami 34-14.

These games will prove who the top dogs in the division are. It is obvious that the Redskins look like the worst team in the division right now. The Eagles must get on a winning streak to save their season. The Cowboys have to stay consistent and also get on a roll. The Giants need to prove their worth as a first-place team and not lay an egg. It should be another exciting week in the NFL and there will be recaps of these games in next week's article.
