The View Back East: Giants Losing Steam

After the Eagles and Giants both lost last week, the Dallas Cowboys are in sole possession of first place in the division. It doesn't get any easier this week for the Giants as they head home to face the red hot Green Bay Packers. The Cowboys go to Arizona to face the Cardinals, the Eagles play Thursday night to play the Seattle Seahawks in Seattle and the Redskins play the New York Jets at home. Will the Cowboys continue to roll? Will the Giants and Eagles continue their slides? Here is a recap of last week's games and a preview for next week.

Patriots 38 Eagles 20

Vince Young's second start this year wasn't as successful as last week's. The Eagles defense got demolished and picked apart by Tom Brady and the Pats. Brady threw for 361 yards and three touchdowns. BenJarvus Green-Ellis ran for 44 yards but had two touchdowns. Wes Welker had another huge game with 115 yards receiving and two touchdowns. Deion Branch had 125 yards receiving, Aaron Hernandez had 62 yards and Rob Gronkowski had 59 yards with a touchdown. The Patriots defense controlled the Eagles offense and the built a huge lead early. Vince Young threw for 400 yards with a touchdown and an interception, but most of those yards came in the second half.  DeSean Jackson had such a poor game that he got benched in the second half.

The Eagles season continued to go down the tubes. Will Andy Reid be back for another season next year? Will his staff get fired after a poor showing? Will they keep DeSean Jackson or trade him because of his antics? They go on the road to Seattle tonight in a Thursday night game. Jeremy Maclin and Michael Vick are already ruled out. They will have to rely on the arm of Vince Young and the legs of LeSean McCoy. Will that be enough to beat the Seahawks, who are always tough to beat at home? The Seahawks will prevail in a close game. Prediction: Eagles 24 Seahawks 27

Redskins 23 Seahawks 17

The Redskins' season might be over but at least they are fighting and competing. They pulled out a late victory against Seattle on the road. They have finally found an answer at running back in Roy Helu. Helu had a huge game with 108 rushing yards and a touchdown with seven catches for 54 yards and a touchdown. He dominated the game and helped Rex Grossman, who threw for 314 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions. The return of Santana Moss helped the entire offense. The defense was solid as they held the Seahawks to 250 total yards.

They head home to face the Jets, who are desperate for a win. The Redskins will do everything they can to give them a game and they should if their defense continues to play well. The Jets offense has been very inconsistent and who knows if it will turn things around.  Prediction: Jets 20 Redskins 17

Giants 24 Saints 49

The Giants got steamrolled by the Saints on Monday Night. Drew Brees and company had a field day and could literally do whatever he wanted against a ravaged Giants defense. The Giants offense was barely on the field until the fourth quarter when the game was already out of reach. Eli Manning had a decent stat line with 406 yards with two touchdowns and one interception, but it wasn't enough. Victor Cruz had a monster game with 157 yards and two touchdowns. Drew Brees threw for 363 yards and four touchdowns.  This team has now lost three in a row and their chances at the playoffs look slim right now. Will Coach Tom Coughlin be back next year if the team misses the playoffs again after another big start?

The Giants defense better get healthy quick because the Packers come into town this Sunday. This is a must win game for the Giants who have to win to keep up with Dallas. Will they be able to pull off the upset with a battered defense and inconsistent offense? They will keep it close but they won't pull out the victory. Prediction: Packers 34 Giants 24

The Cowboys look like they will keep rolling this week as they get the lowly Cardinals. If the Giants lose again this week they will be two games back with four games to play. They still have two games against the Cowboys so they still have a chance but it's not going to be easy.
