The Show Must Go On
FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - The tragic mass shooting in Colorado did not deter hundreds of moviegoers from seeing "The Dark Knight Rises," though many of them said the tragedy was in the back of their minds as they watched the film.
"I was kind of frightened to even come," said John Hernandez, after watching the movie. "They talked about the scene, like when it actually happened so I mean it took me a while to get that off my mind."
Security guards were on alert for any suspicious behavior. Backpacks were banned from the IMAX Theater at the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History, unless it was checked by security beforehand.
AMC Theaters banned costumes, but Superhero attire was welcome at the IMAX Theater. Those in superhero attire get a 10% discount off movie tickets, but despite the incentive, less than a handful of moviegoers dressed up.
"I think out of respect for what happened in Colorado a lot of people just aren't dressing up," said Phillip Gonzalez, Public Relations Manager for the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History.
It was one of their best-selling nights at the IMAX Theater, where all shows on Friday and Saturday were sold out.
Many said, despite the tragedy, coming to the movies was their way of escaping reality.
"Everyday people go to the movies and something like this happens it's really terrible." said Rahul Ragunaghan. "My heart goes out to all the victims and their families."
