The New "Dallas" Set To Premiere On TNT
DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - After more than 20 years, the Ewing family is back on television. A new generation of the famous family returns to the screen on Wednesday night in the updated version of the classic "Dallas" series. Fans of the original will be able to see plenty of familiar faces in the two-hour premiere.
Larry Hagman, Linda Gray and Patrick Duffy are all back, but the focus is now on their kids, played by Josh Henderson and Jesse Metcalfe. The first episode finds Bobby (Duffy) looking to sell Southfork to a conservancy, so that the ranch's beautiful land cannot be spoiled by oil drilling. However, Bobby's nephew (Henderson) is already secretly drilling on the property.
Expect plenty of family infighting to ensue.
The original "Dallas" ran for 14 seasons, ending in 1991. This new series is set for 10 episodes, with more to come if audiences tune in regularly. And Dallas City Hall is already betting big on the show's future. Councilmembers voted unanimously to offer incentives to the program if it gets renewed for future seasons. The city will cut the show a break -- to the tune of $200,000 per season -- to continue filming in Dallas.
There is a lot of competition from neighboring communities and states and lure in television and film projects. Production crews can spend over $1 million locally on each episode. While the $200,000 break alone may not be critical in deciding to film in Dallas, it does make a big difference when combined with professional local talent. "Getting an incentive like this allows us to hire more extras," said show producer Kenneth Topolsky, "allows us to be out a little bit more, have an extra song, allows us to get a piece of equipment or maybe do an aerial unit that show off the city. Every dollar we get expands the scope of the show and gives more to the audience."
