Thanksgiving Dinner At Dallas Feast Of Sharing Event
DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - Each year the Feast of Sharing event works to bring together communities and provide a Thanksgiving holiday-type meal to those less fortunate. Today the Central Market Feast of Sharing Event is happening in Dallas.
A Mobile kitchen will arrive before 10 a.m. and begin cooking for what is expected to be more than 10,000 Dallas residents. The 45-foot trailer is capable of cooking some 2,500 meals per hour.
There is no charge for the Feast of Sharing dinner and the event is open to people of all ages. Those less fortunate are invited for a Thanksgiving dinner complete with turkey and all the trimmings.
Community and non-profit organizations, churches and schools have spread the word about the Feast of Sharing and given the sluggish economy event organizations are expecting close to 20,000 guests, in both Dallas and Fort Worth, this year. This is the sixth year that a Feast of Sharing event will be held in Dallas. Fort Worth held its first ever event on November 6 and volunteers there served nearly 6,000 people.
Thursday's event will run for five hours, from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m., and includes a Family and Social Services Area, live entertainment and arts and crafts for children.
Organizers also wanted to make sure that anyone who had a desire to attend the event had a way to get to the location, so free transportation is being provided. In Dallas, there will be free bus transportation, from 1:30 p.m. until 6 p.m., from the following locations - The Bridge Homeless Recovery Center at 1818 Corsicana; The Salvation Army Center at 5554 Harry Hines Blvd.; the Dallas Life Foundation, at1100 Cadiz St.; the Anita Martinez Recreation Center, at 3212 Winnetka Ave.; and the Lakewest YMCA located at 3737 Goldman.
