Texas Terror Plot Suspect Waives Detention Hearing
LUBBOCK (AP) - A Texas student from Saudi Arabia accused of trying to build a bomb with chemicals and equipment ordered online has waived his right to a detention hearing.
Defense attorney Rod Hobson filed the document Monday that waives 20-year-old Khalid Ali-M Aldawsari's scheduled Friday detention hearing.
The document states Aldawsari can later request a pretrial detention hearing.
Aldawsari was arrested Feb. 28 on a charge of attempted use of a weapon of mass destruction. Court records show federal agents had traced his online purchases, found extremist posts he'd made on the Internet and secretly searched his apartment, computer and e-mail accounts.
The records show one of his alleged targets was the Dallas home of former President George W. Bush.
