Texas Storm Support Team Heading To New York
AUSTIN (AP) - Gov. Rick Perry says a 39-person team is being sent from Texas to New York to support Superstorm Sandy recovery efforts.
It's the third Incident Management Team from Texas to be deployed to the Northeast, which was slammed by the storm in October. Some 140 people were killed and millions of homes and properties were damaged or destroyed.
Perry said Monday the team is to help residents of Brooklyn, Queens and Staten Island with power, water and medical problems and direct them to assistance programs.
Team members include people from the Texas A&M Forest Service and first responders from around the state.
There are 17 such teams based around Texas.
