DALLAS (KRLD) - He didn't write the letter as a lawyer or State Senator....Royce West says he poses questions as a black man in today's world.
West asked the questions in an open letter titled, "Questions from a Black Man."
Questions included "are you afraid of me because of the color of his skin?"
West says the questions are what many black Americans feel. For instance, West asked the National Association of Blacks in Criminal Justice if they have similar feelings?
"The answer to that question is yes. Which tells me that these are college educated African Americans in the criminal justice field," said West. "Prosecutors, probation officers, judges, police officers. All of them feel the same way that they've had instances where they feel as though they've been disrespected because of the color of their skin."
With the tragic events that have taken place in Minneapolis, Dallas and now Baton Rouge, Senator West hopes his open letter will start people talking to friends and neighbors about the issues our country faces.
