Texas School Janitor Accused Of Locking Kids In Closet
CORSICANA (CBSDFW.COM) - Police in Corsicana are investigating claims of child abuse at a charter school.
Last week a grand jury indicted Steven Dunn on charges of child endangerment, injury to a child and unlawful restraint.
Dunn, 51, was the janitor at Two Dimensions Preparatory Academy Charter School.
Corsicana police detective Ronni Phillips said things turned dangerous when Dunn disciplined two children, ages three- and four-years-old.
"The janitor, who has no rights over the children whatsoever, has been taking it upon himself to disciplining the children… placing them in the janitors closet, where many chemicals are in reach of the children," explained Phillips.
In addition to the chemicals, the children in the closet were near exposed electrical wires.
Police in Corsicana are looking into claims that a teacher sent the children to Dunn for discipline and investigating more abuse accusations.
"There are new allegations, that have been brought to our attention, that don't have to do with Mr. Dunn, but have to do with the teacher," said Phillips.
"Bleaches, Pine Sol, tons of disinfectants. These are like gallon jugs of chemicals, on a thick shelf, running from the bottom floor all the way to the top. When you walk in the closet it will knock you out."
Two Dimensions is based in Houston. When contacted by phone a woman answering the phone said no one was available to comment on the allegations.
