Texas Ranks 2nd For 2010 Twisters, Behind Minnesota
ALBERT LEA, Minn. (AP) - Minnesota led the nation for having the most tornadoes in 2010.
According to the National Weather Service's Storm Prediction Center, the state had 145 tornadoes. The state with the second highest total was Texas, which had 105 tornadoes.
The figures are not official until they are reviewed next year by the National Climate Data Center, but they are not likely to change enough to bump Minnesota from the top spot.
Wisconsin tied for sixth place with 68 twisters.
Forty-eight tornadoes were spotted in Minnesota on June 17, making it the day with the most tornadoes in the state's history. That day, it turns out, had the most tornadoes for the entire country, with 115 over the span of 24 hours.
Minnesota totaled 24 tornadoes in 2009 and 43 in 2008.
