FREEPORT, Texas (CBSDFW.COM/AP) — Yeah, yeah -- it's a chicken crossing the road story but different! A Texas police officer literally chased a chicken across a road but the fowl managed to flee.

Police in the South Texas town of Freeport posted video online of Officer Curtis Land trying to catch the chicken Monday night.

Video posted on the Freeport Police Department Facebook page shows Land using a pole with a loop on the end in the failed attempt to capture the chicken. A police statement says Land tried to capture the bird but lost sight of it -- ironically the animal made the stealth move near a chicken restaurant.

On the video Land is heard laughing and saying, "I ain't chasing a chicken. I want to know where the dang chicken came from?"

Police say the fate of the chicken wasn't immediately known, after the bird dashed near some gas pumps and under a patrol vehicle before slipping away.

Authorities didn't immediately say who's believed to own the chicken -- but the truth is out there. Freeport officials said a if anyone sees it they have issued a warrant for Felony Fowl Evading! No word on how much time the chicken could spend in the "pen" if captured.

Freeport is about 60 miles south of Houston.
