Texas Man Executed For 10-Month-Old Boy's Death

HUNTSVILLE (AP) – A Texas man who already was a convicted child sex offender has been executed for the beating death of a 10-month-old boy he was baby-sitting at a home in Dallas.

Jesse Joe Hernandez received lethal injection Wednesday evening in Huntsville for the slaying of Karlos Borja 11 years ago.

The execution was carried out about two hours after the U.S. Supreme Court denied last-ditch appeals for the 47-year-old Hernandez.

The child was taken to a Dallas hospital in April 2001 with a skull fracture and bruises over his body. He died a week later. His 4-year-old sister was beaten similarly but survived.

Hernandez initially denied the beatings, but later acknowledged to police that he might have hit the boy with a flashlight because the children were crying.
