Texas' Largest Vaping Convention Held In Lewisville
LEWISVILLE (CBSDFW.COM) - Even though many North Texas cities have put restrictions and bans on certain sales of e-cigarettes, the largest vaping convention in the state took place in Lewisville this weekend.
Hundreds of people attended 'Vape Blast 2014' at the Medical Center of Lewisville Grand Theatre, where vendors showcased the latest paraphernalia used in the growing e-cig industry.
The convention ran for three days, March 14 to 16, and was free to the public.
Known as vaping, proponents of the popular, new e-cigs say it's an effective way to quit tobacco usage.
There are virtually no federal regulations on vaping right now, but several cities in Texas and across the US have banned the sale of e-cigs to minors.
Among these cities is Lewisville - ironic, right? But maybe it's not, explains one event organizer.
"Self regulation is the way to go because we know what we're dealing with -- an addictive substance -- and we don't want anyone under 18 to get a hold of that," Kenny Brattain told CBS 11 News.
In fact, the Vape Blast 2014 website states that people 18 and under cannot attend the convention unless accompanied by an adult.
Rockwall and Frisco also banned the sale of e-cigs to those people 18 and under.
