Texas Fishing Report

AUSTIN (TEXAS PARKS & WILDLIFE) - Here is the weekly fishing report for selected Texas lakes as compiled for the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department.

ATHENS

Water lightly stained; 68–72 degrees; 0.70' high. Black bass are good on topwater poppers and small swimbaits. Crappie are good on minnows and jigs. Catfish are slow on trotlines.

BONHAM

Water stained, 66–70 degrees; 0.30' high. Black bass are good on crankbaits, spinnerbaits and chatterbaits, jigs and soft plastics. Crappie are good on minnows around bridges and backs of creeks. Catfish are excellent on frozen shrimp and cut bait.

BRIDGEPORT

Water stained, 67–71 degrees; 23.66' low. Black bass are good on chartreuse with brown back crankbaits and small topwaters. Crappie are good on minnows and jigs. White bass are fair on slabs. Hybrid striper are fair on slabs. Channel catfish are slow on rod and reel. Call ahead as lake access is becoming severely limited.

CADDO

Water stained to muddy; 70–73 degrees; 2.50' high. Black bass are good on spinnerbaits and squarebill crankbaits. White and yellow bass are good on slabs. Catfish are good on cut shad.

CEDAR CREEK

Water stained to muddy; 69–73 degrees; 0.56' high. Black bass are good on Texas rigged soft plastics and shad pattern crankbaits near shallow cover. White bass are good on minnows and slabs. Hybrid striper are fair on minnows. Crappie are fair on jigs. Catfish are good on prepared bait.

FAIRFIELD

Fishing has been slow since the fish kill in September of 2010. TPWD has discontinued stocking the lake after another kill in early September 2011. Redfish and black bass survived the kill in limited numbers.

FORK

Water stained to muddy; 69–73 degrees; 0.21' low. Black bass are good on Texas rigged creature baits and hollow body frogs. White and yellow bass are good on minnows. Crappie are good on minnow and jigs near the bridges. Catfish are good on trotlines and prepared bait.

GRANBURY

Water murky; 63–67 degrees; 3.88' low. Black bass are good on chartreuse/blue and pumpkinseed soft plastic worms. Striped bass are slow. White bass are fair on Li'l Fishies. Crappie are fair on minnows and blue tube jigs. Catfish are fair on shrimp and stinkbait.

GRAPEVINE

Water stained to muddy; 67–70 degrees; 2.01' low. Black bass are slow on shallow crankbaits and Texas rigged worms. Crappie are fair on minnows. White bass are good on minnows and slabs. Catfish are good on rod and reel.

JOE POOL

Water lightly stained; 68–71 degrees; 2.21' high. Black bass are fair on spinnerbaits and bladed jigs. Crappie are good on minnows. White bass are good on slab and minnows. Catfish are fair on nightcrawlers.

LAVON

Water stained to muddy; 68–71 degrees; 1.13' high. No report available.

LBJ

Water stained; 63–67 degrees; 0.33' low. Black bass are good on chartreuse Curb's jigs and watermelon red tubes. Striped bass are fair on silver slabs. White bass are good on silver Pirk Minnows and Spoiler Shads. Crappie are fair on minnows over brush piles. Channel catfish are fair on minnows and nightcrawlers. Yellow and blue catfish are slow.

LEWISVILLE

Water stained; 67–72 degrees; 2.20' high. Black bass are good on bladed jigs and shallow crankbaits. Crappie are good on minnows. White bass are good on minnows. Hybrid striper are good on minnows. Catfish are good on cut shad and prepared bait.

MONTICELLO

Water clear; 70–73 degrees; Full pool. Black bass are fair on Reaction Innovations Sweet Beavers and hollow body frogs. Crappie are good on minnows and jigs. Catfish are good on prepared bait.

PALESTINE

Water stained; 68–71 degrees; 1.74' high. Black bass are good on Texas rigged creature baits. Crappie are good on minnows and jigs. Hybrid striper are fair on slabs. White bass are slow on slabs. Catfish are good on trotlines.

POSSUM KINGDOM

Water fairly clear; 66–72 degrees; 13.94' low. Black bass are fair to good on spinnerbaits, Texas rigs, weightless Senkos and finesse jigs. Crappie are fair to good on minnows and jigs. White bass are fair on Road Runners. Striped bass are fair on live shad. Catfish are fair to good on live shad and nightcrawlers.

RAY HUBBARD

Water slightly stained; 69–73 degrees; 3.85' low. Black bass are good on shallow/medium crankbaits and topwater poppers. Crappie are fair on minnows near brush piles. White bass are fair on minnows. Hybrid striper are good on minnows. Catfish are good on trotlines.

RAY ROBERTS

Water clear; 67–71 degrees; 0.54' low. Black bass are fair on Texas rigged worms near shallow cover. Some fishing being caught on hollow body frogs. Crappie are fair on jigs. White bass are good on minnows and slabs. Catfish are good on prepared bait.

RICHLAND CHAMBERS

Water lightly stained; 68–72 degrees; 5.55' low. Black bass are fair on shallow crankbaits and swim jigs. White bass are fair on minnows. Hybrid striper are good on slab and minnows. Crappie are fair on minnows. Catfish are good on trotlines.

SAM RAYBURN

Water murky; 63–67 degrees; 3.73' high. Black bass are fair on Carolina rigged watermelon red soft plastics and Rat-L-Traps. White bass are fair on live minnows and silver spoons. Crappie are fair on minnows. Bream are good on worms. Catfish are good on frozen shrimp, live minnows, and stinkbait.

SWEETWATER

Water off color; 65–71 degrees; 28.52' low. No report available.

TAWAKONI

Water stained; 69–72 degrees; 3.85' low. No report available.

TEXOMA

Water clear; 68–71 degrees; 0.50' low. Black bass are fair on small swimbaits and topwater walking baits. Crappie are fair on minnows and jigs. Striped bass are good on minnows and slabs. Catfish are good on trotlines.

WEATHERFORD

Water clear; 67–70 degrees; 5.31' low. No report available. Please call ahead as low water is making launching difficult.
