Texas Electrical Workers Headed To Florida, Preparing For Hurricane Recovery

DALLAS (1080 KRLD) - North Texas electric workers are making the long drive to Florida to help with outages that are expected when Hurricane Matthew makes landfall.
Through a mutual aid agreement, Denton Municipal Electric workers are now headed to Florida at the request of the Orlando Utilities Commission. 20 line workers will be helping local crews after the powerful storm makes landfall later this week.
Denton Municipal Electric Manager of External Affairs Brian Daskam says safety is priority number one.
"We send a safety manager with the crews to make sure that, while those guys are anxious to help the community, that they're also staying safe themselves," Daskam said.
It will take several days for the workers to arrive in the Orlando area because they're hauling a bunch of equipment in those big cherry picker trucks.
The city will be reimbursed by Orlando for the assistance.
