Texas Dad Hopes Son In Syria Turns Up Safe
DALLAS (AP) -The father of an American journalist working in volatile regions of Syria says his son hasn't been in contact with his family in Texas or editors for more than a week. But he's hopeful his son will turn up safe.
Austin Tice has reported for The Washington Post, McClatchy Newspapers and other media outlets. The former Marine was expected back in the U.S. this month.
His father, Marc Tice, said late Thursday that it isn't uncommon for journalists in Syria to be out of communication.
The Washington Post says the 31-year-old spent time with rebel fighters after entering Syria in May, then traveled to Damascus and was among the few Western journalists there.
Washington Post and McClatchy executives say they're concerned and working with the State Department to locate Tice.
