Texas A&M Mascot Reveille VII Dies
COLLEGE STATION (CBSDFW.COM) - Reveille VII, the highest ranking member of the Texas A&M Corps of Cadets, has died at the age of 12 (in human years).
Reveille VII was an AKC registered Rough Collie. She was born at Argent Kennel in Fort Lauderdale, Florida on October 9, 2000. She officially became A&M's seventh mascot by the Reveille name in May 2001.
Since her retirement in 2008, she has been living under the care of Paul and Tina Gardner in Wellborn, Texas. She also had her own Facebook page.
She will be buried along with the other former mascots at the north entrance of Kyle Field, facing the exterior scoreboard.
The tradition of Reveille began in 1931 when a group of A&M cadets picked up a small dog on the side of the road and took it back to the campus to take care of her. She got her name when the bugler played 'Reveille' and the dog began barking.
