Texas Air Force Officials Set Up Abuse Hotline

SAN ANTONIO (AP) - The Air Force has expanded its response to a sex scandal at a Texas training facility by setting up a 24-hour hotline for reporting alleged misconduct.

Gen. Edward Rice Jr. on Monday sent an email to thousands of current and former airmen who trained at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland in the past 10 years.

The 24-hour phone number accepting calls Wednesday: 210-652-0008.

Investigators say more than 40 women at Lackland in the past year had inappropriate contact with instructors or were sexually harassed or raped. Five instructors have been convicted since July. Nearly a dozen others have been under investigation.

Air Force officials recently announced a reduction in work hours of training instructors and a crackdown on even those who swear at recruits.
