Texan Trail Bridge Remains Closed In Grapevine

GRAPEVINE (CBSDFW.COM) - A crucial bridge in Grapevine remains closed on Friday as officials continue to analyze its structural integrity. Texan Trail offers motorists access to the north side entrance of DFW International Airport from Highway 114. But westbound commuters are having to pass up the bridge and turn around to access it from the eastbound side.

Highways in this area of North Texas have already been under construction for months, a part of the DFW Connector project. But on Thursday, a truck carrying some construction equipment was unable to fit underneath the Texan Trail bridge over Highway 114.

The truck swiped the concrete girder, removing a chunk from the bridge and scattering a mess of debris on the highway below.

State officials had planned on re-opening the bridge at 6:00 a.m. on Friday, after ensuring that the bridge's structural integrity was intact. That has since changed. The bridge could now be closed through much of Friday. No exact reason was given for the delay.

This bridge closure is just the latest in a long series of road closures north of DFW Airport, due to the DFW Connector project. Some eastbound lanes of Highway 121 and Highway 114 are already closed – that has nothing to do with the Texan Trail incident.

The area is so chaotic right now that travelers trying to reach the airport are often finding themselves lost and confused. The lesson here – either use the southside entrance to the airport or plan on leaving extra early.
